8 Poems by FDS members Crossing the river As I try to cross this wide river of grief and fear, I am so thankful for these stepping stones, solid and near, Each step is revealing, and strengthens my soul, Each step is reassuring that I will reach my goal. To build my skills to listen and truly understand, To hold back my urge to step in, so that he is able to stand, To learn how to care about, and stop caring for, And to comfort my heart, always heavy and sore. David The things we learn We do not judge But we will listen, Our children’s lives A parents’ vision. How can this be? Surely … not mine? Then reality bites Of the cruellest kind.
